Portrait of Hale Sabine

Hale J. Sabine is manager of the Owens-Corning Fiberglas Sound Laboratory at Granvile, Ohio. He is in charge of research, development and testing of the expanding range of Fiberglas acoustical materials for controlling noise in homes, apartments, office and industrial buildings, appliances and machinery.He has been involved in acoustical research since graduating from Harvard University in 1930, with a degree in physcis. From 1957 unitl 1961, when he joined Owens-Corning, he was a Senior Scientist with the Armour Research Foundation, Chicago, where he directed many contract research projects in the Acoustic Section of the Physics Research Division. For 27 years before that, he was associated with the Celotex Corp. and became Cheif Acoustical Engineer for the company. Mr. Sabine is past President of the Acoustical Society of America. He is the author of a book "Less Noise...Better Hearing" and a chapter on acoustical materials in the "Handbook on Noise Control" and he has alos written many articles for professional, scientific and industrial publications, including the Journal of the Acoustical Society.A native of Worcester, Mass., he attended Knox College before going to Harvard., Credit Line: AIP Emilio Segrè Visual Archives, Physics Today Collection
