Abstract/Description: | The old contrasted with the new. In the background is the latest type of infrared spectrophotometer. Introduced in 1958, by Perkin-Elmer, it is simple to operate, moderately priced and designed for everyday use by the chemist at his bench. In the foreground is one of the first infrared instruments commercially available. Developed jointly by American Cyanamid Company and Perkin-Elmer, it was first sold in 1943. While the new 'Infracord' spectrophotometer is a complete instrument, containing optical system, electronics and recorder, the early version contained only an optical system.
