The Rowland Grating Ruling Engine.

One of the original Rowland Engine will be operating. The spectrum formed by the grating being ruled can be seen. We are indebted to Mr. Wilbur Perry (grating laboratory 1929-1972 (retired)) for setting up the grating engine. Mr. Verne Muffoletto (grating laboratory 1941-1959) of Muffoletto Optical Company donated and coated the grating blank. Mr. Milton Nemec (physics shop 1935-) restored the engine to operating condition and refurbished the display case which is the case used for housing the engine since the 1920's. This equipment will be on display at the Maryland Academy of Sciences during the Bicentennial Exhibit., Credit Line: The Johns Hopkins University, courtesy of AIP Emilio Segrè Visual Archives
