Haystack Microwave Research Facility
Abstract/Description: | Lincoln Laboratory's Haystack Microwave Research Facility in Tyngsbobo, Mass, used for interplanetary radar measurements to carry out a new 'fourth test' of Einstein's theory of general relativity. The large antenna is protected from wind and weather by a spherical radome. At the lower right in the sketch, being hoisted up to 'plug-in' behind the large antenna, is the Planetary Radar box that contains the radar transmitting and receiving equipment. This unit weighs a total of four tons and contains about 6000 pounds of electronics and associated equipment. The Haystack Microwave Research Facility has been developed and operated by the M.I.T. Lincoln Laboratory for the U.S. Air Force. ; |
