The 184-inch Berkeley cyclotron at Lawrence Berkeley Nationl Laboratory

The 184-inch Berkeley cyclotron; before doubling the energy output of the 184-inch cyclotron it was rated at 350 Mev for protons. The magnet core is 30 ft. high, 56 ft. long, and 15.5 ft. wide. There was a 19-1/8 inch air gap between pole tips. The main coils surround the cyclindrical poles and the vacuum tank is between the pole tips., Credit Line: Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, courtesy of AIP Emilio Segrè Visual Archives, Physics Today Collection
