Mrs. Uhlenbeck's note - G. P. Nijhoff (called Pim.) was one of the two sons of the publisher Martinus Nijhoff in The Hague. He was a student in experimental physics in Uhlenbeck's time, and after his PhD went to Java to work at the Botanical Gardens lab. He died young (early 1930's).
