Mrs. Laura Fermi, widow of physicist Enrico Fermi, cuts the cake at a ceremony held at Argonne National Laboratory to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the world's first controlled nuclear chain reaction in Chicago Pile Number 1. The cake was baked in the shape of the now-famous 'Chicago Pile,' which was built at The University of Chicago under Enrico Fermi's direction. Left to right: Mrs. Fermi, Argonne Director Robert G. Sachs, and John T. Wilson, president of The University of Chicago.
