Abstract/Description: | Carl Kisslinger (second from left) instructs unidentified graduate students from India, Turkey and Pakistan on the wonders of seisometry. The instrument was the first installed at St. Louis University in October, 1909, with the first good seismogram Kisslinger could find dated in January, 1910, from an earthquake in the Caribbean. The instrument is an 80 kg horizontal Wiechert, which was purchaed for $112.00 including a reasonably good clock and a lifetime of spare parts. |
