The Energy Research and Development Administration's (ERDA) Idaho National Engineering Laboratory (INEL) is engaged in geothermal studies to identify and solve the technical problems associated with locating, evaulating and using geothermal reservoirs with water termperatures of about 300 degrees Fahrenheit (150 degrees Centigrade) to produce electric power. If current exploratory drilling in the Raft River area of southeastern Idaho locates a suitable geothermal resource, the program could lead to building and testing a medium-temperature geothermal pilot plant there., Credit Line: ERDA Photo, courtesy AIP Emilio Segrè Visual Archives, Physics Today Collection
