Abstract/Description: | Arthur Compton (right) at a ceremony where John Burroughs School of St. Louis, MO is honored for being an outstanding secondary school for teaching physics, as determined by the American Association of Physics Teachers. "Among the ten outstanding secondary schools in the United States in providing good physics teaching is the John Burroughs School of St. Louis, selected by a committee of the American Association of Physics Teachers. Dr. Arthur H. Compton, right, distinguished Service Professor of Natural Philosophy at Washington University and a Nobel Peace Prize winner in physics, is shown talking with participants in the special ceremony at which he presented a certificate and apparatus to the prize-winning school. Shown with him are, Charles E Kanter, of the A.S. Aloe Company, which donated the apparatus; Frederick B. Eiseman, Jr., physics teacher and chairman of the school's science department; and Dr. Leonard D. Haertter, Director of the John Burroughs School. The A.A.P.T. is a member of the American Institute of Physics." |
