Cockroft-Walton Accellerator
Abstract/Description: | Caption courtesy D. Allan Bromley: "The 600 kV Cockroft-Walton accelerator in the Sussex Street laboratories of the National Research Council of Canada in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada on which I and Jack Sample, who subsequently was Professor of Physics at the University of Alberta, attempted to study some of the proton capture steps in the Bethe proposal for stellar energy generation. The entire experimental arrangement was mounted in the small rectangular cage at the bottom of the large cylindrical column supporting the main electrostatic terminal." |
