Aerial view of the Brookhaven National Laboratory

Aerial view of the Brookhaven National Laboratory site, looking north. In the upper center of the photograph is the Alternating Gradient Synchrotron (AGS) and its ancillary buildings, with its one-half mile circumference magnet ring, which is housed in a tunnel under 12 feet of earth. To the right and below the AGS aare the Graphite Research Reactor and the Hot Laboratory. To the right of the reactor is the dome-shaped containment vessel for the High Flux Beam Research Reactor (HFBR), presently under construction. Just beyond the HFBR is the Nuclear Engineering Department building, to the right of which is the recently completed High Intensity Radiation Development Laboratory. To the left of the AGS is the Cosmotron building. Nuclear reactors, Credit Line: Photo courtesy Brookhaven National Laboratory.
