Abstract/Description: | Brief, typed response to the questionnaire; three pages of biographical statistics; and a copy of an autobiographical talk given before the Grand Rapids, MI, Rotary Club, entitled A Scientist's View of Creation. Recipients were asked to discuss their decision to enter astronomy; their work during the Second World War; their professional work outside astronomy; the fields in which they have been most active, the advances in both those fields and others, and their own accomplishments and satisfactions; sources of funding; their perceptions of public attitudes; the influence of religion or philosophy on their work as astronomers; and their opinions on questions relating to the Big Bang Theory, cosmology, up-coming important developments, and the search for extraterrestrial intelligence. |
