Abstract/Description: Hohenemser discusses his childhood and family background; his education; studying mechanical engineering at the TH Darmstadt and University of Gottingen; his dismissal in 1933; his work on helicopters at Flettner in Berlin in 1935; two colleagues whom he admired, Richard von Mises and Willy Prager; his application for re-empoyment at the Univ. of Gottingen in 1945 was turned down; the difficulties of emigration to the U. S. in 1947; problelms of aculturation and the conditions of his academic career in the U.S..
