David Sayre working on developing a new computer technique

David Sayre developed a new computer technique for use in the final stages of determining the arrangement of atoms in proteins and other large molecules. In the first application of the new technique, Sayre used it to determine, at high resolution, the structure of the bacterial protein rubredoxin, which he is examining on the electron-density map in this photograph taken at the IBM Thomas J.
